8A – Solving the Problem
To solve this problem, I propose a
service in which you can have someone cook home-cooked meals for you in the
comfort of your own home. This could be a one-time service or a subscription
with once-a-week, once-a-month, or even once-a-year options. This person would
essentially meal prep for you, cooking enough food for an entire week period,
using approved ingredients that are beneficial to your health. You would know exactly what is going into the food you eat because it would be prepared right in front of you. You would also
be able to specify whether you needed gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan
options. I think anyone would be able to provide this service, after they have
gone through a simple training and background check, so you know you aren’t
inviting just anyone to come into your house. It would be similar to an Uber
service, in that any approved cooks in the area can pick up your request.
I think its a different approach to the problem but I think the hardest part would be finding qualified chefs for each individual person. Maybe something like a home ec class would be better. Where there is a teacher running you through how to make the meal you pay for the class they buy the ingredients make it in front of you and you get to eat. And you can get group or private sessions.
ReplyDeleteHi Hope! I think this is a smart way to approach the issue. One question I have would be cost. How much would this service cost, because if your audience is college students, then it may be too expensive to chase after that market segment and you may want to rethink the "who". Another question is where would the materials be coming from? Do the people providing the service also have to provide them? Or do the people asking for the service provide the ingredients?
ReplyDeleteThis idea is really appealing to me as a college student because it can be really difficult to find time cook between classes. It seems plausible with all the services like Blue Apron and grocery delivery services. However, this seems a little reminiscent of a private chef, I think you could target it to college students and create your own market.
ReplyDeleteHello Hope. You did a great job identifying this opportunity, and there is definitely potential here for success. I like your idea to create some kind of food service, since convenience is so important in today's society. However, I think you should consider maybe having the chefs cook these meals in their own homes and then deliver them, if they are going to be kept in a fridge or freezer for a week anyway. This would eliminate the problem of people feeling unsafe with a stranger in their home. Overall, great idea.
