Assignment
7A – Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
There is an opportunity in regard to
the lack of quality, healthy home-cooked meals being made and eaten today. As
our culture has shifted to a more convenience-driven lifestyle, people aren’t
taking the time, or simply don’t have enough time, to cook at home. People are
eating more fast food which is why we are getting more and more overweight as a
country. Healthier fast food options have been cropping up around the country
here and there but overall, there is still an evident shift away from
home-cooked meals with ingredients we can see and recognize. Those that have
this problem are people with full time jobs or who go to school full-time who
don’t have time to go home and cook every meal. They are too busy balancing
their home and work life to worry too much about home-cooked meals.
Testing
the who: The who could be expanded to include additional groups of people like
those who simply can’t cook or don’t have any desire to. They may have the
time, but would prefer someone else cooking for them which is why they always
eat out.
Testing
the what: People are in need of home-cooked meals both because they don’t have
enough time for them and also that they are much healthier options than eating out.
Even the “healthy” fast food options still aren’t great substitutes for
home-cooked meals. There are so many
additional ingredients in these “healthy” foods to make them actually taste
good so people believe they are eating healthy. In reality, just eating at home
would make a world of a difference.
Testing
the why: Some people will blame this on being too busy, others on laziness, and
others still on just not having the desire or knowledge on how to cook for
themselves.
Hi Hope, I think maybe you could have given us a little more insight on what your interviews each had to say as well instead of just a summary of what you learned from them. Other wise I definitely agree that home cooked meals are very desirable. There really just ever isn't time t go the grocery store and then cook with school studying and varying transportation.
ReplyDeleteHope, I too believe that the over consumption of fast food in america has become a much more prevalent issue in the recent years due to the development of our nations fast paced life style. While home cooked meals often taste better and and healthier there seems to be a lack interest and desire to eat healthy purely out of convenience. Hopefully we can see this trend begin to change in the future with more awareness.
ReplyDeleteHey Hope,
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your point that there is a lack of home cooked food nowadays. Every since I've come to school I have lacked home cooked meals and always want to go home just for the meals. Home cooked meals are good for you too and constantly eating fast food on campus isn't good. Your work was substantial and I thought your opportunity that you addressed was interesting.
Hi Hope!
ReplyDeleteI think your assessment of an opportunity is great! I really believe this would be a great thing to have especially in a college town. What I think would be beneficial to you is to look for other people who are part of the "who". College students would be a big market, but also professors who are accustomed to eating out every day because they have the same or sometimes more work than students could also be another group of people worth mentioning.
Hello Hope. This opportunity you identified is very interesting and seems like it could be turned in to something very successful. With people having less and less time today, convenience is a huge factor in eating, and that unfortunately rules out most healthy food choices. This could definitely be turned in to some kind of product that would address this problem in some way. The only concern I would have is that this market space is very competitive and is already dominated by a few large companies. Overall, great job.
