Existing
Market
After speaking to several people
from my existing market, I have discovered that a lot of people might be
deterred from using this service because they don’t want someone coming into
their homes and using their kitchens. One such interviewee said it might be a
good idea to have the chefs home-cook the meals at their homes, and simply bring over the finished dishes. That way,
the meals are still home-cooked but avoids having strangers come into people’s
homes. One interviewee also said that there should be similar aspects of the
app to Uber, like rating the chefs and maybe being able to choose them in the
future.
In the future, I think this idea
could be implemented in the business by giving customers the choice. They can
either have the chefs cook the food in their homes or in the customers’ homes,
depending on how seriously they want to monitor the ingredients that are going
into the meals. I also would want to have ratings, so we know how the chefs are
doing and so customers can recommend the chefs they like and continue to
request that same chef.
New Market
A new market I thought of was college
students. They are the ones who are eating out the most, eating the most
unhealthily, and who don’t have time to cook. The only reason I wasn’t
originally targeting this market was because I didn’t think college students
would want to spend the money on the service. However, after talking to several
college friends of mine I found that this may not be the case. The students
said that they agreed that having people come into their dorms/college
apartment kitchens might be difficult, so they liked the idea of simply
delivering the already made food. They also thought it would be a good job to
have in college to make some extra money.
I think this new market seems to be
just as attractive as my previous market. College students are just as busy and
don’t want to spend time cooking and meal prepping. I would just have to target
the right group of college students who are actually concerned with eating
healthy food instead of the fast food that they are constantly surrounded with.
I would also have to make it affordable for the college student budget. However,
I think this is possible.
Hey Hope, I can definitely agree with your interviewees on the aspect of letting a stranger into your home to cook. I get nervous even just having people deliver food to me. Its always a concern for safety especially if your a girl. Some might also not like the idea of a random person just being there for so long most likely in silence.
